Dr. Gregory Cruess is an assistant professor of theology at the University of Dallas, where he also directs the Graduate Ministry Programs in the Braniff Graduate School. He holds a Ph.D. in theology with a specialization in Church history from the University of Notre Dame, along with a master’s degree in theological studies from Boston College and a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Notre Dame. The focus of his research has been on the preaching and scriptural exegesis of early Christian authors, especially St. Augustine of Hippo, along with the reception of patristic exegesis in the medieval period by theologians such as St. Thomas Aquinas. He is also dedicated in his teaching and scholarship to the formation of students for ministry and the apostolate in a variety of capacities. He has taught undergraduate, graduate, diaconal formation, and continuing education courses at the University of Dallas, Holy Cross College (South Bend, Indiana), and the University of Notre Dame. He has also been invited to speak across the country on theological topics, ranging from Marian devotion to the Theology of St. Augustine.
Along with his wife, Fatima, he has actively participated in various ministries, assisting in parish sacramental preparation (First Communion and confirmation), adult faith formation in a variety of capacities, and, most formatively, as a member of the RCIA team at St. Joseph’s parish in South Bend, Indiana.
He currently resides in Irving with his wife and three children, where they are parishioners at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Parish.
